On Air Mauritius (Mauritius), dogs are not allowed in the cabin (service dogs excepted): they travel in the hold, in an approved crate. Here are the conditions, the weight limits and the procedure to prepare your companion’s flight.

In the cabin: no

Air Mauritius does not allow dogs in the cabin (except service dogs). No pets in the cabin, service dogs excepted.

In the hold

Your dog travels in the pressurized, heated hold, in an IATA-compliant crate.

Airline conditions: Hold (checked baggage); handled via the cargo team; special conditions for bulldogs.

Brachycephalic (snub-nosed) breeds

Like most airlines, Air Mauritius restricts flat-faced breeds (bulldogs, pugs, boxers, etc.), which are generally banned from the hold because of the respiratory risk. Since Air Mauritius doesn’t offer a cabin option for pets, contact the airline before booking if your dog is brachycephalic and confirm whether it can travel at all.

How to book

Pet spots on board are limited: book as early as possible.

  1. Buy your ticket, then contact Air Mauritius to add your dog to the booking.
  2. Prepare the health documents (microchip, rabies vaccination, pet passport or health certificate, sometimes a rabies titer test) — see our guide to international travel with a dog.
  3. Choose the right container: an IATA crate for the hold. Size it with our IATA crate calculator.
